Exactly two years ago on this day, March 25, 2022 Tollywood’s global dream took shape and form as blockbuster RRR hit the theaters and changed the game in its own capacity.
Not even in our wildest dreams did any of us expect a Telugu film to get a final nomination at the Oscars. But RRR went a step ahead and actually won the Oscar for the best original song – Naatu Naatu.
At another celebrated awards event – Golden Globe, RRR scripted history by winning the best non-English international film award and also the best song award for Naatu Naatu.
The film emerged as a huge blockbuster in Japan and set a new record for an Indian film running in the highest number of theaters for 100 days.
At a time when other regional filmmakers were occupied by the idea of taking their films pan India, Rajamouli took all of Indian cinema onto the global stage and the cited accreditations are a testimony of the same.
There might be other exponents of the Rs 1000 crore box office gross category but Rajamouli’s film stands a league apart for all the international acclaim that it got. The film impressed the Western audience as well and the likes of James Cameron spoke highly of Rajamouli and his work, RRR and this is the kind of stuff that the wildest dreams are made of.
It has been two years since Tollywood and even the Indian film industry started its global endeavor after RRR opened new avenues. More films will now aim to explore the possibilities after Rajamouli opened the doors.
