A website is a collection of related web pages, usually identified by a common domain name, also known as a Uniform Resource Locator (URL), and published on one or more web servers. Examples of websites are wikipedia.org, google.com and crowdspring.com.

All published and publicly accessible websites make up the Internet (also called the World Wide Web).

The first website was created in 1990 by Tim Berners-Lee, a British physicist at CERN. Three years later, in 1993, CERN announced that anyone could access and use the World Wide Web. free.

Many websites follow a standard template of a home page that contains links to other categories and content within the website. The home page (or simply “home”) represents the main page of the site itself. Often the home page is a kind of “hub” from which all other pages can be reached. An internal web page to which several other pages link in a consistent structure (e.g. a specific topic category) is referred to as a “home page”. Each page is a single HTML document, and all are connected by hyperlinks (or just “links”) that can be combined into a navigation bar for ease of use.

The navigation bar is displayed on all pages instead of just on the home page and allows the user to quickly navigate through the structure of the main website. Another important section of most websites is the footer, another recurring section found at the bottom of every page. The footer typically contains external links pointing to similar websites and other external resources, along with other important information such as disclaimers, links to terms of service, privacy policy, and contact pages, as well as the physical address of the company that owns the email page ? site. Websites are hosted on servers and require a web browser such as Chrome, Firefox, or Internet Explorer (either on a computer or mobile device) to visit. A website can be accessed directly by entering its URL address or searching for it in a search engine such as Google or Bing.

Originally, websites were categorized by their top-level domains. Some examples include:

• Information sites = .info

Although these top-level domain extensions still exist, they say little about the actual content of a website. On today’s Internet, the “.com” ending is by far the most popular domain, along with many other country-specific endings. (.it, .de, .co.uk, .fr, etc. )

News and Magazines: These sites need less explanation, the main aim of this type of site is to keep their readers informed about current events while magazines focus on entertainment.

Social Media: We all know some famous social media websites like Facebook, Twitter, Reddit and many more. These websites are usually created for people to share their thoughts, images, videos and other useful components. Education: Educational websites are quite easy to understand, as the name suggests. These websites are designed to display information through audio, video or images.

Portal: These types of websites are used for internal purposes within the school,
Institute, or a company. Websites often include a sign-up process that allows students to access their credentials, or staff to access their email and notifications.
